What is Live Scan Fingerprinting?
Live-Scan Fingerprinting is the technology used to capture fingerprints electronically - this is a completely inkless process. The applicants digital fingerprints are sent electronically in a matter of seconds to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigative Services (FBI). This allows criminal background checks to be processed usually within 72 hours.
What is a “Request for Live Scan Service” form?
This form is a government form that is provided by the employer or agency that is requesting a live-scan. In order to perform the live-scan, these forms must be completed in triplicate. If you do not have a form, contact the employer or agency who is requesting you to obtain a Live Scan or refer to our "Forms & Fees" page to download the one you need.
How is Live Scan Fingerprinting used?
Live Scan Fingerprinting is used to run a criminal background check of the applicant by the DOJ and FBI. Most employers and agencies require these background checks for employment, licensing, certification, foreign adoptions or VISA/Immigration clearances.
What should I bring to your Live Scan Center?
Form of payment for the service - we accept cash, checks and all major credit cards.
Valid government issued identification such as a drivers license or passport
A completed live-scan request form in triplicate
How do I check my Live Scan results?
Call the Department of Justice (DOJ) hotline at (916) 227-4557. Be sure to have a copy of your live-scan form that was completed by the live-scan operator with you.
Can my request be expedited for an additional charge?
No. Unfortunately, the DOJ does not offer an expedited process.
